Dr. Shyamal Kumar Sen joins PancreaCare – Advitya Healthcares with close to three decades of rich, hands-on clinical experience across general medicine, emergency care, surgical support, and hospital administration. An alumnus of Calcutta National Medical College, he completed his MBBS in 1997 and has since built a long career rooted in disciplined bedside practice and continuous learning.
Throughout his years in several apex private hospitals in Kolkata, Dr Sen has been treating a wide spectrum of OPD and inpatient cases and confidently managing day-to-day medical emergencies. His early clinical years also included structured exposure to General Surgery, where he assisted with major OT work and independently handled minor day-care procedures—experience that has given him lasting confidence in managing complex abdominal and peri-operative patients.
He further broadened his clinical depth during three years as a Medical Registrar in Oncology at Netaji Subhash Cancer Hospital and Barasat Cancer Hospital, developing a sensitive understanding of long-term disease care, nutrition, pain management, and patient-family counselling.
Alongside clinical work, Dr. Sen has repeatedly taken leadership responsibilities as Chief Medical Officer, Medical Coordinator, and Medical Administrator, mentoring nursing staff and junior doctors, and strengthening hospital systems for smoother, safer patient care. Currently, he is serving as Acting Medical Superintendent and General Physician at Crest Care Hospital, Jharkhand.
Importantly for PancreaCare, Dr. Sen has also worked in gastroenterology departments in Kolkata, and has been actively involved in the care of patients undergoing major abdominal surgeries. This naturally aligns his clinical approach with GI, HPB, liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic disease pathways.
What’s close to his heart
Dr. Sen describes himself as a “learning doctor,” driven by curiosity and humility. What inspires him most is learning new medicine, staying up to date with the evidence, and implementing evidence-based management in everyday practice. He feels especially connected to gastro-medicine, where accurate diagnosis, timely intervention, and long-term lifestyle guidance can transform outcomes. His CV also reflects a deep interest in clinical diagnosis and research-oriented thinking, and care for underprivileged families.
