For the organ most people never think about — until it goes wrong.

The Organ

Functions of the Pancreas

A flat organ tucked behind the stomach, roughly the length of your hand — and it does two jobs at once.

  • Makes the enzymes that break down what you eat.
  • Makes the insulin that controls your blood sugar.
  • When either falters, the early signs are vague — bloating, back pain, weight that falls off without explanation.

That vagueness is why pancreatic disease is so often found late, and why we built a programme around it.

What We See

Related Disease

The conditions we see most often in this programme. Each links through to how we treat it.

Pancreatitis

Sudden or long-standing inflammation of the pancreas. Severe upper abdominal pain that bores through to the back is the classic sign.

How we treat it

Pancreatic Cancer

Often silent until it obstructs the bile duct or causes weight loss. Early referral is what decides whether surgery is still an option.

How we treat it

Cysts & Pseudocysts

Fluid collections that follow inflammation or appear on their own. Some need watching, some need draining, a few need removing.

Gallstone & Bile Duct Disease

The commonest trigger for acute pancreatitis in India. Treating the stones is part of treating the pancreas.

Pancreatogenic Diabetes

Diabetes caused by a damaged pancreas behaves differently from type 2. It needs a different plan, not a standard one.

How we manage it

Exocrine Insufficiency

When enzyme output drops, food passes through undigested — greasy stools, weight loss, fatigue. Enzyme replacement changes it.
